Kinrin is the entry-level matcha in Marukyu-Koyamaen’s koicha tea portfolio, representing the most affordable option for making thick matcha tea. While Kinrin’s slightly tart notes may be present, they diminish in more premium koichas. When prepared as koicha, Kinrin introduces you to the pleasures of thick tea, though it retains its own distinctive character. Conversely, when made as usucha, Kinrin delivers a soft, creamy, and grassy flavor that stands out compared to lower-tier matcha varieties.
Proper preparation is crucial for Kinrin; incorrect water temperature can significantly affect its enjoyment. The ideal temperature for both koicha and usucha is 80°C. It’s best to consume Kinrin immediately after preparation, as cooler temperatures may introduce bitter notes.
The unique refreshing and rich flavor with a smooth finish makes Kinrin one of Marukyu-Koyamaen’s most popular core matcha offerings.
